Shooting here is an argument with the light rather than a search for darkness. The park holds just enough shadow to work in, and the city supplies its own glow from every direction at once. I framed for the contrast — foliage and stone against a sky that never fully goes black — and let the ambient light do what it was going to do anyway.
Central Park is a deliberate piece of wilderness held inside a grid. Its darkness is borrowed and partial, which is precisely what makes the sky above it feel hard-won.
The image is infused into the surface of the metal itself, not printed on top of it. Starlight reads as actual luminance rather than ink, which is why astrophotography belongs on metal.
