The image is infused into the surface of the metal itself, not printed on top of it. Starlight reads as actual luminance rather than ink, which is why astrophotography belongs on metal.

The story behind this frame

“A lake that has been photographed for two centuries and still gives”

Como is difficult precisely because it is beautiful in every direction — there is no wrong frame, which means there is no obvious right one. I went looking for a foreground with some texture to it rather than shooting the water flat, and used the tree line to hold the eye before it escaped to the mountains.

Bellagio sits at the fork of Lake Como, with a mountain arm falling away on either side. The light comes off the water twice: once directly, and once bounced up under the foliage.
