Floodlit and still keeping most of its secrets
El Castillo is lit at night for the visitors, and that artificial blue is genuinely how it looks — I have not added it. The interest for me was the way the flat lighting removes all the surface texture and reduces the pyramid to pure geometry, which is closer to how it would have been understood than a daylight photograph is.
Chichen Itza is built as an instrument as much as a monument: the stair count, the alignment, and the equinox shadow that runs down the northern balustrade are all deliberate.
The image is infused into the surface of the metal itself, not printed on top of it. Starlight reads as actual luminance rather than ink, which is why astrophotography belongs on metal.
Care: Wipe with a dry microfibre cloth. No cleaners, no glass spray.
